At least 49 people died in a bus accident that plunged down a ravine while taking a sharp curve on Saturday on a highway in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, in the south of the country, local media reported.
The bus plunged into a ravine 400 meters deep while driving through an area of mountains in the SC-418 highway at the municipality of Campo Alegre, located 235 kilometers north of Florianópolis, the regional capital, sources of Police State Highways.
The secretariat of development in the region of Joinville (Santa Catarina) had previously reported that the death toll was 32, but could not specify the exact number of victims because it is believed that at nightfall still had several bodies in the Forest and others trapped in the vehicle.
