Obama Pays Tribute To LA Galaxy In The White House

In a joint ceremony with Los Angeles Kings, Stanley Cup champions, the LA Galaxy gave him a shirt with his name and number 1 the President.

The event was attended by players, coaches and staff of the Galaxy and MLS commissioner Don Garber. Who was not present was Landon Donovan.

Two years ago we had the Galaxy and the Kings here together,” Obama acknowledged. “This is the third title in four years for the Galaxy it’s his fifth Cup in history. More than any other team in the MLS - and was the last of the best American player ever, Landon Donovan, who unfortunately could not be here today.

Subsequently, he stressed how the Galaxy reached the final of the MLS Cup and won the title against the New England Revolution.

In the same way I wanted to recognize the value of Robbie Rogers, who was the first athlete in the history of American sports, to declare his homosexuality.

“I want to thank Robbie Rogers, as the first openly gay athlete,” said Obama during the end of his speech. “I know what Robbie wants first of all is to win, but you’ve also managed to inspire other young people here and around the world, and we are very proud of you.”

After taking some pictures with each of the teams, Obama a hockey stick by the Kings and Galaxy third tee during his presidency.

“Congratulations to these two teams, Los Angeles, and I wish them the best of luck as long as you do not play against Chicago,” he said Obama, who is fond of sports teams in the Windy City.
